FitPar was created by Rob Willsea, a Marine Corps Officer with more than 20 years of experience training civilians and Marines. Throughout his career he has been driven by competition personally and professionally. As a young Platoon Commander he prided himself in developing the most physically fit unit in his Company. As a trainer he was always pushing his clients to accomplish more. Although he always felt he was effective with his training there was never a way to really compare how he was doing.
In 2007 Rob started a Boot Camp for Women. Quickly, he learned that regardless of age or fitness ability the women he trained were extremely competitive and wanted to know how they compared to others in specific exercises and their improvements from the beginning of class to the end. He was already doing a timed mile and maximum pushups, but the ladies wanted more. So, to add some fun to the class Rob came up with the idea of Fitness Golf.
Rob put together a score card with nine separate exercises that tested muscular strength and endurance. The class would do eighteen holes in one class with an identical front and back 9. At the end of the class there were enough scores to create a Par for each hole. One day Rob played the course with his class and quickly he realized that eighteen holes was way too hard -- even for someone who was in pretty good shape. The course was shortened to nine holes played at the beginning and ending of each session.
Again, it was hard to measure or interpret results without a comparison. So one day in January 2009 he was talking to another Boot Camp owner in California and realized there was no collaboration among trainers nationwide. He realized that Boot Camp golf could create an awesome competition with Boot Camp owners across the U.S.
While running on a treadmill and snow bound in Michigan the idea grew much bigger to incorporate all trainers, businesses, churches, military organizations, law enforcement organizations and even as a fund raiser for charities and non-profit organizations
Now after many pages of notes and brainstorming sessions it’s created – FitPar.
I hope you enjoy the site.
